ALEX BERRYMAN-NOSIK

Alex Berryman-Nosik passed away at home, with his wife by his side, November 16, 2014, in Grass Valley, CA, following a long battle with colo-rectal cancer. A celebration of his life will be held in Crescent City, CA, February 25, 2015. Specific time and location to be announced at a later date. Alex entered the world February 25, 1946, in Racine, WI, the first of nine children born to Alex and Lillian (nee Knotek) Nosik. At age five, his family moved to Southern California where he attended elementary and high schools. After high school, Alex attended college to pursue an engineering degree. Wanting to be patriotic and help the VietNam war effort, he become a hot shot welder of munitions casings. After moving to Corona in 1965, Alex met his first wife, Janet Allen. They were married in April of 1967. In 1973, their son, Alex Charles “Chip” Nosik, was born. After their divorce in 1979, Alex moved to Crescent City, CA. There, he met his second wife, Marla Robbins. They were married in 1981 and he adopted Marla’s two boys from previous marriages, Tommy and Kevin. In 1985, their son Robert Lee Nosik was born. In 1996, Alex met his third wife, Janelle Berryman. They were married in May 1999. In spring 2006, they moved to AZ, where Alex was Assistant Ranch Manager/Counselor at a drug and alcohol transitional living facility designed for young people learning to turn their lives around. Alex particularly enjoyed this job as he was able to participate in helping many young adults transform their lives. In Fall 2007, Alex and Janelle moved from AZ to Yerington, NV, where Alex rapidly advanced to the position of Maintenance Tech for the Marathon Equipment plant where his skills led him to be appointed lead of a team in the design and construction of the “Gateway to the Jeanne Dini Cultural Center” arch, the portable BBQ used by the Mason Valley/Yerington Fire Department and several gazebos used for shading picnic and rest areas in town -- tangible evidence of his presence there. In April 2014, Alex and Janelle brought her father back to Grass Valley to live with them and care for him until his passing. Alex didn’t really have any hobbies, though he loved to ride his quad, discover and explore new places, and spend his spare time helping family or friends. Alex was a hard worker, was strong, and was determined to live life to the fullest, which he did with dignity up to his last breath. He dearly loved his children, grandchildren, siblings and friends, and left them a legacy of inspiration with which to live better lives. Alex was preceded in death by his father, Alex Nosik, Sr.. He is survived by his wife, Janelle; his mother, Lillian Nosik of Dallas, OR; his motherand father-in-law, Richard and Dorothy Miller of Nevada City, CA; his sons: Alex “Chip” Nosik, (Kim) of Klamath Falls, OR; Kevin Nosik of Colorado Springs, CO; Thomas Nosik (Donne’) and Robert Nosik of Crescent City, CA; his step-children: Daniel Mapa (Michelle) of Salt Lake City, UT; Jeremy Mapa of Yerington, NV; and Cora Fritzinger (Jerehmy) of Auburn, CA; his siblings: Ann Damril (Roy) of Keno, OR; Frank Nosik (Linda) of Pahrump, NV; Tanya Lauder (Cliff ) of Falls City, OR; Henry Nosik of Dallas, OR; Theresa Nosik of Washington state; Robert “Bobby Joe” Nosik (Debbie) of Gold Hill, OR; Mary Nosik of Falls City, OR; and Aggie Rodewald (Pat) of Dallas, OR. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, it was Alex’s wish that donations be made to Hospice of the Foothills, The Wounded Warrior Project, Disabled Veterans of America, or The American Cancer Society.s
