CLAY EDWARD DANIELS

It is with great sorrow that we announce the loss of our loved one, Clay Edward Daniels. He passed away September 10, 2016. He was 67 years young. He was born on March 15, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas. At some point his family moved to California. When Clay was 7 they moved to Nevada County. Clay called this home for 60 years. Here he raised Huskies! With his sled, and dog team, he won races all over the country. His parents, father Jack (deceased) mother Patricia CA, and siblings, sister Sue Engstrom (deceased) (Cliff) CA brother Chris (Debbie) TX, were all part of the “team”. At the age of 18 he married Debbie Jo Bittick/Daniels, they were married 30 years. She preceded him in death in 1998. They have two sons, Jesse Clay (Shelia), and James Edward (Jodi). He raised them in Nevada County, where they still reside. He married Glenda Gail Houston/Daniels in 2000. She has a son Weldon (Brittany), daughter Cherisse (Jerome). He truly loved this place; you would see him on any given day/evening, in down town Nevada City. That was Clay’s Internet. He got jobs, cars, wood, leads on “stuff,” information; you name it he got it from his “contacts” in Nevada City! He built houseboats on Englebright Lake, at last count, 17. He was a chain installer on Interstate 80. He started putting chains on vehicles at 14 years old when he lived on Highway 20. Vehicles would get stuck in front of his house, so he would go put their chains on for $1.00. He also was a propane truck delivery guy, a welder, a house builder, a fabricator, hot dog stand owner, laundry mat owner, gas station owner, and volunteer fire fighter. He was an entrepreneur, the definition is: “startup; cultivating”. He was a man that could and would do anything that he made up his mind to do! Clay loved life; he lived it to the fullest. His motto was “When we get old, we’ll stay at home”! Clay took his last big trip with Glenda on Route 66. He drove his 36-foot motor home, towing his 25 foot enclosed car trailer, with his 1966 convertible GTO inside. He was 66 years young at the time! He was a member of the Nevada County Country Club, where he played golf with his best buddies/brothers, Jesse, Jay, Jake, Kenney, Randy, Frank, Ritchie, way too many to list. He played anytime one of them would call! Even though he was gruff, he truly loved his family and friends. Clay’s Grandchildren are: Ashley 26, Andrew 21, Brittany 20, D’Andre 17, Zachary 17, Jared 17, Brandon 16, Madison 16, Wendi 12, Peyton 12, Jazzell 3, Great Grandson Ayden 4, and many nieces and nephews. Please join us for Clay’s Celebration of Life on October 8th, at 2:00 PM on Englebright Lake in the parking lot at the Dam. 12361 – 12369 Englebright Dam Road.
