A graveside service will be held at 11 am, on Thursday March 19th, 2020 at Elm Ridge Cemetery on Kidder Avenue in Grass Valley. Lorraine “Bobcat” Hosking was born on June 4th, 1931 in Manteca, Calif., to John and Marian Vierra of Nicolaus, Calif. Lorraine grew up in the Yuba City/Nicolaus area where her family owned and operated a dairy outside of Nicolaus. Lorraine graduated from East Nicolaus High School and later became a Registered Nurse, working at Rideout Hospital for approximately 40 years. Lorraine met her husband, William Stuart Hosking during a trip to Grass Valley and instantly fell in love, the two were later married in 1951. Lorraine was also known by the handle “Bobcat” on the CB radio stations and by all who knew her well. She loved gardening, art, cooking, helping others and sports. Her favorite teams were the San Francisco Giants and 49ers and Sacramento Kings and most days you would find her sitting watching a game and talking with her son, Stephen H. about the players. She is survived by her sisters, Violet Renslow, Margaret Bishop, Denice Gould and Nadine Vierra, brothers, Bob Vierra and Frances Vierra, daughters, Marie Hosking of Grass Valley, Carol Hoffman of Oregon, and Helen Carli of Colorado and son, Stephen William Hosking of Grass Valley. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Aiden and Jayce Hosking and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marian C. Vierra, husband, William Stuart Hosking, daughter, Ida Lorraine Hosking and siblings, Marian Fassler, George Vierra, Johnny Vierra, Filbert Vierra and Joseph Vierra. She will be missed by all who knew her as she helped many lives, and was a friend to so many. Her kind loving heart will always be remembered.
