September 24, 1929 - November 21, 2020
Robert Wesley Bingham, known to all as “Bob,” was the oldest of three children born to Lee Rudd and Dora (Flatequal) Bingham in San Diego, California on September 24, 1929. Bob remained in the family home in the Point Loma area of San Diego with younger sisters Nancy and Margaret, graduating from Point Loma High School in 1947. He would later leave home as a young adult to join a traveling ice show known as Ice Capades. During one such tour, Bob met Ruth Elaine Brown, a Canadian skater from Nova Scotia. Their relationship blossomed into marriage and eventually, three children. Bob and Ruth settled back in San Diego where they would remain and raise their family until Ruth’s passing in 1979. Bob worked most of his adult life as a commercial banker in the San Diego area, working for nearly 20 years at the former San Diego Trust and Savings Bank and, later, at City National Bank. After his banking career ended, Bob turned entrepreneurial, creating with a partner a data storage business based on microfilm and microfiche, the leading technologies of the time. While continuing to live in the San Diego area, Bob met Mary T. Conroy and their relationship grew into what became a long-lasting, loving marriage. Bob and Mary relocated to the Penn Valley area, moving to the Lake Wildwood community in 1997. Despite Mary’s passing in 2016, Bob remained in the same home for his remaining years. Bob remained a strong, supportive presence in his children’s lives and was very active in the Scouting movement, serving in various capacities in including Scoutmaster of his sons’ Boy Scout Troop. His dedication to Scouting led to recognition at the local and Council levels, culminating in his earning the Silver Beaver award, the highest award available from the San Diego County Council of the Boy Scouts of America. His passion for the outdoors and rural life no doubt fed his desire to settle in Penn Valley during his retirement years. Bob is survived by his son Kim R. Bingham and his wife Angelina Bingham, his son Scott A. Bingham, his daughter Kathryn E. Bingham, four grandchildren and one dozen great grandchildren.
