Susan "Sue" Marie Koop

July 6, 1956 - October 8, 2021

Susan Marie Koop (Sue), fourth child of Thomas Koop and Virginia (Jinny) Hatch Koop, passed on to her final adventure September 29, 2021, a victim of the Covid 19 pandemic. She fought the good fight, winning a bit more precious time with her family. Born July 6, 1956 in Fresno, Sue was a lifelong Californian, except for a brief stay in Powell Butte, Oregon. She graduated from Washington Union High School in Easton where she competed to win championship status for her FFA market lambs. Sue was living her dream in her cabin in the woods near Alta, CA. She built the cabin herself, and was accompanied there by the loves of her life, daughter Katie and granddaughter Bella. This little family, in this little log cabin, was Sue’s heaven on Earth. Sue’s employment was quite diversified as she held many skills and talents, including a certificate in welding! A decades long manager for Hewlett Packard, her career actually started in America’s national forests, where she planted tree seedlings in areas devastated by wildfire or clear-cut logging. She eventually became an independent contractor in that industry. Along the way Sue earned manager status as an industrial warehouseman where she was able to put her natural mechanical instincts to work fulfilling the needs of industrial customers. After helping build an energy efficient straw-bale house in Arizona, and building her own log cabin in the woods, Sue went on to manage outdoor departments for Lowe’s in the Sacramento area. Recently retired, she had great dreams for the future with more time to spend at home with the girls. Regarded as the peacemaker in her family of six siblings, Sue quietly sacrificed time and again for the benefit of others. She never regarded her selflessness as costly, rather, as a gift to the folks she loved. A kinder soul never existed. Sue is lovingly remembered for her infectious smile, perpetual cheerfulness, and long, long blonde ponytail! Sue is greeted in Heaven by her grandparents, parents, an infant brother Thomas, and her younger brother David. She is survived by her daughter Katie Chambers, granddaughter Bella, five siblings - Jody Cook Lesley, Bonnie Whitley, Jefferson D. Koop, James M. Koop, and Tom W. Koop, as well as an uncle, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to cousin Mona Roque who tirelessly advocated on Sue’s behalf through the toughest days of this tragedy. Sue, her kindness, and her optimism will live in our hearts forever. After cremation, interment will take place at the Washington Colony Cemetery in Easton (Fresno), CA. To help with Katie and Bella’s transition to life without Sue, please contact Bonnie at [email protected] to learn of their needs and how to contribute in Sue’s memory.
