Shawnte Wingate

Shawnte Wingate, age 47, transitioned on December 6, 2025, at KP Medical Center, after three months, from critical brain damage complications that resulted from a standard surgical procedure she never had. She was surrounded by love, with her mother Jackie, her adopted mother Jackie, and her sister-in-law Ang at her side. Shawnte was born on February 8, 1978, in Vallejo, California. Shawnte was raised and educated in Vallejo, California. After graduating high school, she attended Napa Valley College, where she studied Business Law for three years and earned her Associate of Arts degree. She spent more than 16 years building a successful career in customer service before stepping into her true passion in 2011 as a Pastry Chef. That same year, she founded her own baking business, Koneque’s Sweet Treats and Things. Shawnte was widely known for her delicious cakes and cookies, and especially for her famous banana pudding—often described as the best anyone had ever tasted. On April 29, 2006, Shawnte married Alphonso H. Wingate Sr., and from their union came their greatest joy, their only beloved son, Alphonso “AJ” Wingate Jr. Though Shawnte and Alphonso later separated, they remained close friends and devoted co-parents until Alphonso’s passing in 2019. Shawnte loved her son AJ dearly and often referred to him as her “miracle baby,” having been told she would not be able to have children following cancer treatment. She devoted her life to AJ, ensuring he had the very best. She instilled in him a strong faith in God and raised him to be a young man of character and purpose. Even after the loss of his father, and with the support of a loving village, AJ flourished under Shawnte’s unwavering guidance and unconditional love. Shawnte was known for her generosity, compassion, and selflessness. She gave freely of herself, always making sure those around her were okay. She lived a life rooted in purpose, faith, and love, and she touched the lives of all who knew her. Shawnte was preceded in death by her former husband, Alphonso H. Wingate Sr., who also transitioned at the age of 47. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved son, Alphonso “AJ” Wingate Jr.; her mother, Jackie Pierce (Charles); her father, Isaiah Lewis; her brother, Alonzo “Teddy” Murphy Jr.; and a host of extended family and friends who will continue to celebrate her life and legacy.
